Winter Veil Ball Contest: The Winner

“As a professional Snapographer myself I was amazed and happy about the quality of most Snaps which makes me excited to see what the future will bring for Snapography.”
- Freckles Snapwiggle, jurymember

Jurymember Freckles - The gnomette to talk to about photography
The Contest
The rules for choosing the most talented photographer were simple. Submit a snap from the Winter Veil event. The winner receives two hundred gold coins! Each jury member picked their favorite and two runner-ups. The jury paid attention to colours, lighting, angles, in what way winterveil celebrations were in the snapograph itself, blurriness, composition (people, things, surroundings etc.).

Afiem Starwhisper - Winner of the Winter Veil Snapshot Contest

The Winning Shot: Afiem Starwhisper’s ‘Happy Winter Veil!’
The panel comments:
“Creek”:
“I love to laugh, and this picture explains one of the reasons of doing the Ball.”
Lady Acrona:
“The snapshot delivers very well the feeling of laughter, happiness and warmth that was present!”
Freckles:
“Captures the holiday spirit well, lovely detail with the WinterVeil tree and ornaments functioning as a border…
…Tip: Try to adjust the colours slightly, a little less orange, a little less vibrant, try to keep a steady hand when taking the snaps so the snaps turn out a little less fuzzy.”
Yara:
“Taken from underneath the Winterveil tree (original angle!) this snap perfectly captured the joy of the event.”
Alabast:
“The right photograph at the right time. Framing it with the tree in the foreground creates interest. Job well done!”

(Sur)Prize:

Dark's snapshot of him and his friend Zooane.
Lady Acrona:
“It is not a snapshot taken during the event itself, but the way they pose so alike together, in their gorgeous outfits, is adorably grand! It almost looks like their hands were supporting the Winter Veil tree that is in the background, maybe symbolizing how much they like Winter Veil!”
Freckles Snapwiggle:
“Fashion, gnomes and Winterveil what more can a Snapographer want? … Thumbs up! The colours in this snapture are outstanding with its purplish layer. The Snapograph shows that Winterveil is not about grandness but about small things, detail, generosity and… fashion! Tip: Try capture the entire tree (including the treetop) to make it an even more balanced snapture. Also try to adjust the lighting a bit as the Snapograph is quite dark now.”

Dirki's submission, made with a camera built by his late aunt.
Jason Starstone:
“I like the composition, the round cut-out and the focus of the picture gives a very nice feel in a Winter Veil post card style.”
Horatio A. Steepsprocket:
“Gets the grand and wonderful tree in the main amount of the snap which makes the snap very winterveily, but I’d recommend they have their snapographic device seen to as its made the colours all wrong.”
Yara:
“Was the Winterveil tree really that big? The snap gives a great view of the tree in the Library halls…a shame the snapographer didnt wait for a more exciting moment with the public.”
"Decked Halls" by Constable Mogrum of the Stormwind City Watch
Starstone:
“This has Lady Acrona as the centerpiece of the image, with a very nice composition (I love the packages in the foreground). It suffers a little from being a bit on the dark side and lack of contrast.”
"Winterveil Bauble" - Another shot by Constable Mogrum
Horatio A. Steepsprocket:
“Very nice and shiny and the bird bones make a delightful center point.”

Niars made many snapshots that were popular with the judges.
“Once again a great angle for a snapograph, (it made me wonder what kind of lens was used). The snapograph shows the grandness of the dwarven building and the craftsmanship of its builders.
Tip: Try to use a longer shutter time so you can capture both fireworks in full glory, the blue “dot” is a little distracting for the Snap as it is at almost the center of the Snapograph which distracts from the general beauty of the Snapograph.”

Darlonag, a retired knight of the Silver Hand made a snap of the new City Watch steeds. Soon to be seen patrolling near you.
Yara:
“You dont need a brand new Snap-O-Rama but a good snapographer to show what the Winterveil Ball was all about! A unique moment, well captured.”
